Read Around the World - 2009

The Kiwanis Club of Calhoun held it's annual Read Around the World at Calhoun Primary School, Wednesday, March 4.  Thank you for supporting our Read Around the World service project this year.  We had 11 Kiwanis members, 2 guests, 18 Sigma Lambda members, and 14 Key Club members who signed in for the event (we may have had a few more who slipped in).  The teachers and students thoroughly enjoyed the guest readers and would love for them to come back soon!

Many of the children made thank you notes which they gave to the readers in their class room.

Other comments include:

Thank you for the 1st class hospitality!!!

My girls had a blast and are really looking forward to possibly reading again. Ms. Williams’ class was great and so well mannered.

It was a real treat for the girls to do a “community project”. All they could talk about was “how awesome” your school was that it made them feel “cool” to do something for the little kids. My mission was accomplished today…I helped 2 young ladies do something good for a great cause and we received a lot of “little” laughs for our hearts in return.

The girls were most excited about the Thank You cards the class made them. What a special touch. Thank you for allowing Downing Clark Academy to be a part of the “Read Around the World” with Kiwanis.

Read Around the World - 2008
Kiwanis Read Around the World day was held at Calhoun Primary School last Wednesday. Kiwanis of Calhoun members and Calhoun High School Key Club members combined efforts to read to children at the school and encourage them to enjoy a lifetime of reading.

Kiwanis Read Around the World is an international event held during the months of February and March. Kiwanis Club of Calhoun and Calhoun High School Key Club were among hundreds of clubs that participated. Encouraging literacy is one of many ways Kiwanis is touching the lives of children around the world.
